Gearing Up for School and The Program!

It has been awhile since I posted but here we are, a few days before school starts and I have already been at my part time job almost a week! This started when I decided that after a year of looking for work I needed a change so I enrolled in the 2nd Career program. I am about to go to my orientation meeting today for the program. I start school for 8 months on Monday. When I am done I will have upgraded my IT skills in Network Administration….

The program recommends that you get a part time job as the financial support they give is minimal. Mind you, they pay for your tuition, books and parking so its pretty good. Getting the part time job was actually the tough part. You see, I am in school from 8 am to 1pm M-F so the hopeful person that I am thought maybe I can get a part time job on the days after school to fill out my week. Not so. It is very hard to find an employer that will let you work a few hours and have weekends off (I still want to be able to do some things with my kids this summer). I was able to find a part time job where I work 7-10:30pm M-F but it is almost 40 minutes from my home. It is pretty good but I wish I could find something closer. I am feeling a time crunch to get from work to home to sleep then up and early for school but is is something you have to do if you want to make a positive change in your life. If you like rock music, the way I am feeling reminds me of the Rush song “Tom Sawyer”, “hopeful yet discontent??”

I will get there, I am confident that I will and I can’t wait to get started. I will keep you posted. Change in Midlife is tough but it can be done!
