3 Easy Ways to Clean up Your Computer

It’s spring cleaning!! Even though it is starting to get really nice outside, you might still be spending a little more time on your social media like Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, Pinterest, Instagram…etc. Wouldn’t you like to like, share, pin and favorite those posts a little faster? Today is a great opportunity to speed up your computer before you start surfing. You will probably want to use your computer since you are stuck at home and because it has a much larger screen than your smartphone!!

Here is how you can clean your computer quickly in three easy steps:

1. Use adwCleaner

Adwcleaner is a great program used to clean up any malware left behind through your web surfing habits. It works with all web browsers on a Windows system. It has recently been bought by Malwarebytes so they have lots of support behind them and the product is free!

First go to https://toolslib.net/downloads/viewdownload/1-adwcleaner/ . From there click the download link in the top right corner. It will download to wherever you download information on the computer. This software does not need to be installed. Double-Click the icon on your desktop and let it run.

When the program runs you will see this screen:

Click Scan Now and let it do its thing. If it finds anything it will tell you. All you have to do is click “Clean and repair”:

You will be asked to either clean and restart now or clean and restart later. I would choose clean and restart now so we can proceed to step two.

2. Use Malwarebytes Anti-Malware

This program removes any malware it detects on your PC. You can download the free version to get you started. If you like it and maybe want more features that the program offers, you can upgrade to the premium version for a fee. Go to https://www.malwarebytes.com/ and then click on “Free Download” in the top right corner. The program should automatically download. Double-click from where you saved it and then let the program install. When you run the program you may see this:

If the malware database is out of date, click the “Fix Now” button. It will update the database and you can go to step 2 (Scan Now). If the database is already up to date you can go directly to step 2. Let it do its malware scan and when it is done, reboot your computer. Now on to the last step…..

3. Use an Antivirus Program

Depending on what version of Windows you run and whether or not you are using a third party Antivirus program, the steps may vary. Please scan through your installed programs on you computer to see what programs you might have. You should have something installed. If you run Windows 7 you might have Microsoft Security Essentials (MSE), Windows 8,8.1 or 10 you should have Windows Defender installed. Third party antivirus programs include, Norton, AVG, Avast, Kapersky and the like.

Run a system scan with the product you have installed, let it clean anything it finds and reboot. 🙂

If you use this technique periodically, you will keep your computer running quite smooth. I try to do this about ever three months or so and I have ALOT installed on my machine. It runs quite well and it is over 4 years old!

You now have a clean computer and you can get back to the less boring things like sharing a picture of you in your pajamas while titling it “Best spring cleaning ever!”
